In Chapters 5-8, the book really starts to get exciting. In the beginning of the 5th chapter, the kids just figure out that Meg and Charles Wallace's father is hidden behind the dark thing. They then leave the planet Uriel, and travel to meet Happy Medium. She is a very happy person. It is very hard for her to show the children that the darkness is surrounding the Earth. Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Happy Medium tell the children about this darkness and how things are trying to fight it everywhere. Mrs. Whatsit also reveals to the children how she was a star. She tried to fight against the darkness, but lost her star life while fighting. She then turned into what Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which were. Happy Medium tries to make the children happier by showing them their families at that moment. It only makes the children madder though.
Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which then take the children to the planet where their father is being kept. That planet was called Camizotz. Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which then leave the children telling them that they cannot help them, and that they will be on their own from now on. Mrs. Whatsit does strengthen their gifts though. She tells Calvin that his gift is his ability to communicate with all kinds of people, and then she strengthens it. She then tells Meg that her gift is her faults, and they will come in very handy in Camazotz. Then, she tells Charles that she can only give him his resilicencce of his childhood. Mrs. Who then tells Calvin a hint. Then Mrs. Who gives Meg her glasses, and tells her to only use them as a last resort, when they are in the final moment of peril. Mrs. Whatsit told Charles Wallace that the danger in Camazotz is greatest for him, because of what he is and that he is the most vulnerable. Befor Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which left they told the children to go into the town. When the children go into the town, they find that everything that the people do down there is all in rythym, except for this one boy. After all of the kids have gone inside, he is still outside trying to bounce the ball, but he is having trouble with it. His mother comes out and brings him inside but the kid dropped the ball. Charles Wallace, Calvin, and Meg bring the ball back to the kids house, and the mom won't admit that her son dropped the ball, but her son runs up to Charles Wallace and grabs the ball. Charels Wallace, Meg, and Calvin make their way through town, but the paper boy stops and asks them some questions, and tells them about the CENTRAL Central Intelligence Center, and how the town that they are in is the capital of Camazotz. When Charles wallace, Meg, and calvin get into town where the buildings are everyone is still in repition. They make their way into the CENTRAL Central Intelligence Center and end up being reported, and meeting the guy with the red eyes. Meg figured out that he wasnt the one talking, but that someone else was talking for him. The man with the red eyes tested the kids. At one point, Charles Wallace looks into the man's eyes and becomes hypnotized by him. After their dinner, Charles wallace takes Meg and Calvin to find their father. Along the way, charles Wallace tries to convince Calvin and Meg that IT(I think its the darkness) is good, and that Camazotz is a great city and that nothing ever goes wrong there.
